General Discussion / Where'd you go?
« on: March 25, 2014, 06:03:26 AM »
I don't know why you all aren't posting. Was there some upheaval that left you angry with one another? A hundred years ago when I lost my leg, If I hadn't found this forum I would have died. It was this site that gave me help and hope. Sometimes they pissed me off with brutal honesty. Other times they laid a hand on my shoulder to cheer me up but all in all I learned that our greatest resource is each other. God bless Mike for still hosting this forum. God bless you for coming here to share what you know.

General Discussion / "Older and Around"
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:17:27 PM »
Yesterday I left the house for an outing that wasn't health related. Whatever it was that was ravaging my health has stopped, leaving me with my left thumb, middle finger and pinkie. Every possible application of antibiotics was used. For Whatever reason it came, it also left. It could be diabetic complications or some strange VooDoo curse I picked up in Bora Bora. I'll never know. Regardless, I want to thank you for your help and opinions.

General Discussion / Private Messages and stuff...
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:36:22 PM »
Hey! Did y7ou all know we had private m3essqages and stuff on here? If I knew them I forgot.
I would like to say with a Thousand thanks and  undying gratitude to:

Dick. Yes I would still like to meet again with you and your lovely wife at Lehigh. I have been working hard to pick up the big pieces and stay ahead of the ever rising financial tide. I am still not driving and even typing has become an art form as the computer crashed and it takes weeks to set everything up again.

Steve: I would love to call and bless you for the invitation. What difference does the time zones make if we're going to talk all day and night

Herb: I appreciate the invitation and would love to take you up on it when I get better. So far my best course of action comes from honorable Veterans.

Stinker 373: Send me an e-mail to kapunui@dejazzd.com and I will frorward my photos but again be warned you will be looking at the fingertips which are dead due to sudden onslaught of Gangrene. It's gross

General Discussion / Another New Blessing

A little known side effect of Diabetes is a thing called, "Spontaneous Blistering". Every thing will be going along well when you suddenly notice a small blister. Usually it will be on a toe. For me it showed up on two fingertips. This can happen regardless of your glucose levels.

Within about 48 hours the  blistered area becomes infected. Then your BG's shoot through the roof. Skin begins to fall off along with meat until the bone is denuded.

The surgeon took one look at my finger and said, this part is dead, this part will be dead tomorrow. If we cut you here we may have a chance of saving your hand.

And so it was. Just like that. Two surgeries two days apart. Very quick neat and painless. The first had me in a twilight state from Ketermine. For the second I was further under with Propofol.

I think this may lend credence to Allens assertions regarding the use of local anesthetics. The only pain i have is from the swelling due to the infection.
I have some pictures but may be to rough for mixed company. If you would like to see then just send me an e-mail.

My therapist has arrived so I must be off liken a prom gown. See you soon

Was it you who had the unemployed scientist? I heard of a good opening if he's into cellular biology with a PhD. Of course you would have to move with Dick and I.

General Discussion / Fitting low friction shoes
« on: August 06, 2009, 05:59:55 PM »
My doctor insists that I get a pair of diabetic shoes with a custom orthotic. I have had a couple pair of Apex Ambulators but can't see how you use them with a BK prostheses. The heel is way too high. Anyone have any tips?

General Discussion / Time Running Out

You only have until 6:00pm Pacific time to enter the lottery for Michael Jackson Memorial tickets at the Staples Center. If you win and can't go these tickets may still be worth a fortune to the millions expected to stand outside.

General Discussion / Trying to kill time

You know this foot burn thing has me sitting at home by and by making an effort to fill my days untill I can go out again. So I decided to finally learn how to use my digital camera. It is a cannon and a good one with lots of fancy knobs and buttons. It takes good movies as well.

The manual may of well had been written in arabic. So I figure out how well the, "Auto' button worked. Two years now. I can tutor physics but don't ask me what a button is for. Does anyone know of a web site that welcomes morons?

Don't bother telling me to RTFM. Did that and still have no clue.

Anne if you look to the picture on the left you will see the beachhouse. It is on Front Street in Lahaina in the county/Island of Maui. If you would like to talk about it or anything you all know I welcome e-mail.

I am stuck here in Pa. just making the best of things as it were. I had been surfing the web curious about the best places to retire. Would you believe ranked numbers one and two are Montgomery County Pennsylvania, where I already live and Lancaster County Just down the road a piece where I do my shopping. Who would have thought? Montgomery County was once in the top 5% in all the United States for per capita income has dropped to a paltry 24 out of the 50 highest yet almost 15% of the residents are over 65.

According to the articles I read, we "Baby Boomers" are no longer opting for the sunnier spots like Florida or Hawai'i yet clinging to the burbs such as the Main Line. Mostly due to the knowledge that there are good medical facilities just a short drive away and plenty of them to choose from. Lots of Prosthetic Practitioners. Top shelf theatre and the arts and a short drive to the beach. Very little crime to speak of.

See that? Who knew how lucky I was?
