AK Ertl procedure
« on: June 02, 2013, 07:20:10 PM »
Hey Everyone!

First, I would like to thank everyone on the board or their valuable information. I became an AK nearly 3 years ago now (due to a motorcycle accident) and this forum has been an invaluable source of information. I have since gotten a C-Leg and am walking nearly as well as before the accident  :). Thank you very much for the support and information!

However, as a young and formerly very active person, I am never completely satisfied  :(. I am not able to end bear or put weight on my stump. I want to get back to doing grappling and jiu-jitsu and would need to be able to put substantial weight and need the ability to push off from my stump.

I have heard from my prosthetist that with the Ertl procedure, it is very possible gain the ability to bear weight and put one's entire weight on the tip of the stump. Has anyone here had the procedure performed or have any experience with it? Thanks again!

 :) :)

Never heard of it before, but did do some reading up on it.
I'm confused: I thought you were an above the knee amputee
The Ertl, I thought, is for a Below the knee amputee.

I did read reviews from patients and the procedure is mixed.
And having to do another surgery , for me, just ain't gonna happen.

I understand your activity level, but, let us know what you decide.

Thanx

Dave
