What have I signed myself up for...
« on: April 05, 2009, 12:03:38 AM »
On another forum, related to the goofy Italian motorcycles I admire, I agreed to be
the money-handler for a fund raiser.
A rider from Virginia was injured in an IED attack in Iraq. He has traumatic brain injury, suffers balance problems since, and is unable to ride his Moto Guzzi, for now.
Couple guys kick around a few ideas, and we have come up with a plan to sell "chances" at $50/ each to buy the guys bike at his original asking price, any excess goes to a wounded veterans organization.
1 ticket will be drawn, and the winner gets the bike, valued at $6500.00
We have raised over 50% of our goal in 20 hours.
This is a 10 day program.

Restores a little bit of my faith in humanity.
There are still good people.

The paperwork is stacking up fast. I gotta get busy.
It's o.k. Small price to pay.
One I gladly bear.

I can't help but think that some of these guys paved the way for this fancy CF foot I'm sporting.

Guzzitx, way to go and am proud of  you in what you  are doing, wsh that i wasnt so strapped for cash right now, but here is another web site that i feel would help you out and it is VAJOE.COM, it is a military forum, but if you go into it make sure that you get permission form them before you post a request to sell the raffle tickets.

Spent nine years in my self and made E-6 RADIOMAN, before i left, didnt want to go to VEITNAM, if i reenlisted agian, they showed me my orders after i request to know just where i was headed. Was in the US NAVY.
you-all have a great day.

PLJ, I realize my post comes off as begging for money.
Not my intention. We are pretty much keping this "in-house'"
I was just pleased that we could raise considerable money for someone few of us knew personally. Powerful thing, the Internet.
I am struck by the show of support from all political sides.
Some of these guys are a bit left of Marx, but they truly do support the troops, if not the war.
Money where the mouth is, so to speak.

Is there a link to the auction? I know some people who might like to try their chances.

Neither did I.
Even on weekends. ;)

Again, not begging for money.
If you want to kick in, groovy.
Shipping from Virginia is the responsibility of the winner.
This is the same bike I have, and will ride soon. Has heel-toe shifter, good for left side amputees.
No need to click the shifter up with the left foot, simply mash down with the heel.
We passed $4700 bucks today, with a bunch of checks on the way in the mail.
I have zero doubt we will raise the $6500 to buy the bike. All excess goes to the vet organization.

guzzitx, hope that you were not offended in my last post, but it is the way the forum is set up any request for donations or any thing close to that requires the administration to aprove it before it is placed in the forum, some time back they had a problem with this and that is why it was set up this way,
you-all have a great day.

No offense at all, plj.
As I said, I didn't come here looking for money.
We crossed 6K tonight, our minimum goal is in sight, with almost a week to go.
A guy in Australia sent $1000 AUD, which equals over $700 USD.
He has stated that if he wins the raffle, he will direct the dealer displaying the bike to sell it and forward proceeds to the vet organization.
His phrase: "Vets always get the prickly end of the pineapple, so
I want to do what I can."
He's about as lefty as they come, but he "supports the troops."

I am proud to know and to be associated with such people.

Sorry, I am in no way the woman for Steve. :D

We passed $7500 tonight.
The vet will get his asking price, and a sizable check will go to the vets org.
A good day.

It is all good news. The bike raffle is going well and the Guzzitx isn't the woman for me.  ;)
